2023 Unicoi Custom Callmakers Recap Show

This week Andy recaps the 2023 Unicoi Custom Callmakers show in Helen, GA from January. 

Andy revisits the show and his quest to find the perfect slate call to replace a slate call owned by one of Andy's friends. Andy shares how he failed miserably, and happily, at his goal of not buying a call at the show this year.

He shares audio from the seminars by Roger Parks and Mark Prudhomme. Andy also interviewed several callmakers, including Paul Durham, Darrin Dawkins, and Wendell Lancaster.

Wild Turkey Science with the Wild Turkey Science Podcast Guys

 Cameron and Andy interview Drs. Will Gulsby and Marcus Lashley in this week's episode. Will and Marcus discuss their new podcast called Wild Turkey Science where they will discuss, you guessed it... the science of the wild turkey.

In this episode, Will and Marcus discuss some of the show topics and guests they have had on already. They inform us that this show will be a great format to use to learn about recent and ongoing studies around the country. Both of these guys are experts in the field of studying the wild turkey, and their guests will be the same. This is sure to be an educational podcast that every diehard turkey hunter will want to listen to, if they want to have more turkeys on their hunting properties.

Also, in this episode, Cameron and Andy get Will and Marcus to discuss trapping predators and some of the studies that are ongoing around the country.

2023 NWTF Convention and Sport Show Preview with Pete Muller

This week, Pete Muller with the NWTF joins Cameron and Andy to give us an update on what is going on at the NWTF and to fill us in on the upcoming 2023 NWTF Convention and Sport Show happening in Nashville in February.

The NWTF has set some lofty goals for 2023 - its 50th year anniversary.

• Recruit 75,000 new adult members
• Raise $500,000 for wild turkey research
• Positively impact 1,000,000 acres
• Dedicate $1,000,000 for our Hunting Heritage programs
• Raise $5,000,000 to invest in our people and modernize our IT infrastructure
• Raise $5,000,000 to build $50,000,000 endowment

These goals cannot be accomplished without the help of people like our listeners donating time and money. 

One way we can help the NWTF to achieve those goals is to support the 2023 Convention and Sport Show happening in Nashville. Pete shares a great deal of what is going on at the show this year, and this event is a great opportunity to scratch that turkey itch a couple of months before season starts for most of us.

Traveling and Turkey Hunting with Cameron and Andy

This week Cameron and Andy close out the Traveling and Turkey Hunting series of episodes while sharing some of their own tips and strategies for traveling to turkey hunt.

They cover camping, driving, and flying to their hunting destinations. Cameron shares a great tip about breaking up a long drive to include a hunt in a state about half way between your home and your ultimate destination. That is a great strategy to break up the monotony of a cross country drive and possibly mark off another state from your list of states needed to complete a super slam.

Andy shares a few tips on flying with your gear to save some of those egregious overweight baggage fees.

This week Tanner Burns joins Cameron and Andy to talk about traveling and turkey hunting. Tanner is the second guest in the new traveling and turkey hunting series.

Tanner flies to turkey hunt a good bit, so they discuss the challenges of flying and turkey hunting.  Also, Tanner offers his professional advice as a taxidermist when he touches on traveling with caped out turkeys as well.

This week, bowhunting whiz Jordan Barnes joins Cameron and Andy in the first episode of the new series on traveling and turkey hunting.

Jordan typically drives to his turkey hunting destinations, so this show centers around camping and hunting. Jordan sleeps in his vehicle most nights on his hunting trips, so he also offers tips on how he stays comfortable while sleeping.

This is a great show with lots of great tips for those who like to turkey hunt and travel.

Another Piney Hills Turkey Hunt

This week, Scott McDonald joins Cameron and Andy on the show to share a turkey hunt he had with Andy in the spring of 2022.

This hunt took place on some thick public ground in a tough southern state, but it turned out to be a productive trip for both Scott and Andy as they doubled on a couple of hard gobbling turkeys right around midday.

These birds came through the thick woods, split up, and eventually got back together about 45 yards in front of Scott and Andy.

It took a lot of patience and trust in their hunting partner to make this hunt a success, but it all paid off as it turned out to be twice as successful as they had hoped.

This is a great hunt that will get you fired up for spring. Listen in!

The 2023 Unicoi Custom Callmakers Show Preview with Mark Sharpe

This week, Mark Sharpe joins Cameron and Andy to talk about the upcoming 2023 Unicoi Custom Turkey Callmakers Show held at Unicoi State Park in Georgia. This year the show will be held January 13 and 14 of 2023.

This show features custom turkey call makers displaying and selling their calls as well as seminars by call collectors and call makers as well. This is one of the premier turkey caller shows in the country, and the event is a fantastic time to immerse yourself in turkey hunting with other turkey hunting nuts to prepare for the upcoming spring turkey hunting season.
